APPLES for the Teacher

A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver. — Proverbs 25:11

Fruit is healthy food. Personally, I love green grapes, mandarin oranges, and
honey crisp apples. But no one likes a rotten apple. When it comes to
homeschooling, it can be a tiring and thankless job for all you hard-working
moms. I want you to succeed in this journey, and a big part of whether or not
you’ll make it for the long-term is the kind of backing your husband provides.
Guys—everyone of you can support your homeschooling wife by giving her these
six golden apples. Think of the A.P.P.L.E. acronym to remember them easily.

 Abiding in Christ
 Protection
 Personal time
 Leadership
 Enjoying the Responsibilities
 Service

The gift of a fresh, shiny apple still represents respect and gratitude towards
one’s teacher. Why should it be any different for the homeschooling mom? You
typically carry the lion’s share of the homeschooling workload. To help you avoid
burnout, you husbands need to help your wife avoid feeling 100% of the
homeschooling responsibility. Did you get that? She may carry the workload, but
you need to carry the responsibility.

Your wife needs to hear “thank you” in many different ways and know for sure
that you are engaged. One way you can do that is to make sure she gets
registered for the third annual Homeschool Teacher Appreciation Day scheduled
for Thursday April 28. It’s an online event making it convenient to attend in the
comfort of your home or anywhere you have Internet access. Attend as a couple.
Bring the infant or kids who just can’t stay in bed. Let’s celebrate this journey by
honoring those who do the lion’s share of the work of educating our children at
home.

You can read more details and register for this free event at the link below. Seats
are limited, and we expect to run out of space in our larger-than-normal virtual
auditorium. So sign up now.

To pique your interest in the A.P.P.L.E.S. acronym, here is a short poem with
each key word shown in bold. I hope you find a golden nugget or two (make that
a golden apple) to take away and encourage the homeschool teacher in your
family.

Apples for teacher
A bribe or a gift?
To improve one’s score
To give teacher a lift?

Apples for teacher
So shiny and sweet
Most eagerly accepted
They just can’t be beat

Let’s start with your walk
Abide in The Vine
Seek His righteous first
Then from here, you’ll be fine

Then Personal time
To breathe and relax
May not seem so urgent
But important, a fact

And when you give
Protection, you’ll find
Your teacher and students
Will have peace of mind

Your brave Leadership
The best gift of all
To give vision and purpose
When there’s no crystal ball

And what teacher out there
Won’t think you’re a dear
To Enjoy your own duties
In the language she can best hear

To all of this list
Add Service as a tool
To feed the teacher
And all the students in your school

Apples for teacher
The fruit tastes so sweet
Give them generously to your wife
And the kids at your feet.

Walking by faith and enjoying the homeschooling adventure of a lifetime!
